6TH POREČ HISTORICAL FESTIVAL – GIOSTRA

Poreč historical festival – Giostra gathers over 250 participants in costumes who, throughout the 3 festival days, evoke for the spectators life in the Baroque period thus making it a unique festival in Croatia. This cultural, educational and tourist manifestation stems from historical facts, so most of its events are connected to the 18th century. The central festival event, which also gave Giostra its name, is a knight tournament Giostra, reconstructed from the rules of a tournament held in Poreč in the year 1745. You will be greeted by: – Gorgeous ladies and handsome gentlemen in baroque costumes – Baroque music – Knight tournament – Historical knights’ camp (military encampment) – Local produce and souvenir market – Authentic gastronomy – Drummers – Flag jugglers – Swordsmen – Street entertainers Your hosts are Društvo prijatelja Giostre – Associazione amici della Giostra from Poreč, and their guests: Giostra della Rocca and Compagnia del Lupo Passante from Monselice, Italy who will present life in medieval times; Saltarello from Kapfenberg, Austria and all others who have contributed to this festival: DND, Poreč, USB, Poreč, photo club Poreč. Central part of the festival will take part from Friday to Sunday on two locations: Trg slobode and Peškera bay. On the day of the official opening of the festival, on Friday 7th September, members of Društvo prijatelja Giostre called Giostranti and their guests will form a procession starting at the town’s waterfront and going through Decumanus street to Peškera bay where the opening ceremony will be held. Saturday is the day for the two tournaments: Masgalano and Giostra both reenacted according to the rules of a tournament held in Poreč in 1745. Live Giostra this September.
